Heading into the 3rd round very shortly... Thoughts on the draft so far?

I'm waiting for Vit to acquire Justin Blackmon off of LBer so he can have the "Three Substance-abuse-kateers" rostered

Haha. Well LB can vouch for me that I've been pretty high on Lyerla during this whole draft process. He was someone I wanted to target and thought about with my mid 2nds. Decided to go with the talented RB that has assault weapon charges over the talented TE w/ the powdery nose... haha

Evaluation of my picks

1.08 - WR, Cody Latimer, DEN
1.11 - WR, Davante Adams, GB

Had no intention of trading up or down here, just wanted to get some hopefully solid guys. Actually glad to get these guys because they both have a high ceiling, should get some playing time right away and both with future HOF QBs to learn from. Honestly I like both their chances of "hitting" 2-3 years from now with production even now in their rookie season.

2.10 - RB, James White, NE

I was trying to trade up to get either Bridgewater or Bortles but that didn't work out. Figured I'd start going need and since I only have 1 RB on my roster that is startable I'll go with a lottery pick in White. He's not stud but can catch the ball, doesn't fumble and can play on any down. Ridley is just one fumble away from being benched again and both he and Vereen are free agents in 2015. So White may actually start in a timeshare as early as next year. I'll need it.

3.05 - QB, Tom Savage, HOU

I'm so-so on him but he's got a clear shot at starting in 2015 if he can show something this year. Best of the rest of the QBs at this point.

3.11 - CJ Fiedorowicz, HOU

Need a TE bad. Really bad. It's crowded in south Texas but it's a TE friendly offense and just needs to show something in camp to move up the depth chart. Probably 2015 before any possible production, but then that's the word with most of my team.

Overall - No real studs but then this draft didn't really have any outside the top 2 WRs. Lot's of depth though and I do like my "punchers chance" of getting at least some production from these rooks even this year, but especially in 2015/16.

I'll be honest I still don't know what I've done wrong in this league that my team always stinks. My team in a straight up dynasty is much better after only a little more then a year of rebuilding a turd, but for some reason I can't get ahead in this league. So I'm looking to change up some of my philosophy and see what it brings me.

You've had a few trades the past couple seasons that you'd probably want a do-over on....
2012 season
Bring the Pain gave up Gabbert, Blaine JAC QB;Ponder, Christian MIN QB
Amish Rakefighters gave up Bradford, Sam STL QB;Garcon, Pierre WAS WR; Kaepernick, Colin SFO QB
(Result of 2 trades, but 2013 2nd was exchanged back and forth and this is the end result.. And the Kaep trade was like a week or 2 before Smith got injured and he took over)

2013 season

I'm pretty happy with how my draft turned out. I had a bunch of trade offers on my picks, but decided to make them instead of moving them.

2.01 - Allen Robinson
I wasn't expecting to see Robinson or Lee fall as far as they did in our draft, so I was really quite excited that both were in reach when my pick came up. DD took Lee, a couple picks before my turn came up which left me with Robinson. I've seen him go in the top 8 picks of a number of rookie drafts, so to land him at 18 I was happy. A little worried though with the history of Big 10 receivers, most being busts... So we'll see what happens. Great size, great opportunity.

2.04 - Austin Sefarian-Jenkins
Gronk like size and measurables. Red zone monster. Should be an every down player for TBB since he's a solid blocker and start over Wright and Myers sooner rather then later. Glad I was able to snag him if I'm unable to retain Graham next year with his contract expiring. This pick was between Teddy and ASJ, and Bring the Pain made the pick for me.

2.07 - Martavis Bryant
6'4" w/ 4.3-4.4 speed? Yes please. Gives Big Ben a tall target in the red zone. Will hopefully push for lots of early playing time and make an impact in his rookie season. Didn't produce a ton of numbers during his time at Clemson... But when you're playing behind Nuk Hopkins and Sammy Watkins, you'll probably be the forgotten man.

2.08 - Isaiah Crowell
Is he the most talented RB in this class? Who knows... But I'll take that chance given Ben Tate's injury history and lack of guaranteed $$ in 2015. The CLE RB position is up for grabs going into next year, so here's to hoping that Crowell has his head on straight and is able to beat out West for the backup RB spot and become the eventual RB1 for the Browns either late this year or in 2015. This pick was between him, Hill, and Lyerla... Lyerla was a dude I was interested in thru the entire draft process and was hoping he'd go unsigned until after my 3.14 pick, but was signed just before I came up to pick. If Amaro was available, I would've selected Bryant and Amaro with these 2 picks.

3.14 - John Brown
Drafted in the 3rd round by the Cards. Has better measurables then TY Hilton, and very similar to Tavon Austin... We'll see what this guy can do in Arizona. Will hopefully play on special teams and return punts and kickoffs to give some added points. Was also looking at Jerrick McKinnon with this pick, but felt like I've got enough RBs rostered.

3.14 - John Brown
Drafted in the 3rd round by the Cards. Has better measurables then TY Hilton, and very similar to Tavon Austin... We'll see what this guy can do in Arizona. 99.9% sure that'll be Ten Ginn there (who has a pretty fun mobile app game if you've never played it and need a time killer)

1.5 Brandin Cooks: Pretty easy pick here. Was slightly considering ODB, but I like Cooks situation way more and I already have a bit of a piece of the NYG passing game in Jernigan (hopefully). Over 100 recs just left this team in Sproles and Moore and Cooks is sort of an amalgam of the best parts of both. I don't expect him to catch 100 balls his first year, but there's a role there for him to fill and I'm confident in his ability to step up to the plate. Was really hoping for Ebron here but Cooks is a fine consolation prize.

1.9 Carlos Hyde: When I intially traded up for this pick (in Feb) I pictured selecting Jordan Matthews. Was really hoping for him after going to the Eagles but he went right after Cooks. Was a real difficult decision here and I kind of played it safe which I may regret doing in the long run. Was looking at Kelvin Benjamin here as well mainly, but Marquis Lee was there in my mind too (Really don't need a THIRD Jacksonville reciver on my team though; posibly too short sighted). Went with Hyde thinking even in a worst case scenario with my selection here, the RB is going to retain the most value. Crazy that the 2nd RB off the board was the 9th pick. Gore is old and is set for free agency next year. Lattimore is a threat but I'm skeptical of his return; will root for him though. Those guys will be great mentors for Hyde and if he can't develop sucessful work habbits from following their examples, he's even dumber than his wonderlic result would sugest.

3.15 Shaq Evans: Solid size and speed and a forseeable path to the top of the depth chart. Upside is there too. Jets WRs are generally pretty worthless though even when they hit so not suprised to see him here. Worth a shot though.

Coming into this draft, I only had 3 picks. I wanted/needed to make the most of these. I feel great!

1.01 Sammy Watkins: Surprise surprise here. Watkins has the ability and promise to be the best player in this draft class. Of course I wish he would have ended up in a better offense on a better team, but I believe he'll be solid. Had to take this guy here... there was never any question. I did entertain and almost land a deal to move out of the 1st pick though, but I concluded it wasn't worth the risk. Its time for my franchise to start being legit again, therefore had to roll with what could be a great player for several years...

1.03 Mike Evans: Didn't expect to be staring him in the face for the 3rd pick. I was sure he would go 2nd. I was all set to trade out (if the deal was right) or draft Ebron right here in this spot. Then big Mike Evans slipped to me. No question, had to take this guy. He is a beast, will be a TD machine and "could" be elite. I also like that he's on a team where VJax will garner much attention... leaving him to feast.

2.12 Jeremy Hill: I was seriously considering Carr as a developmental young QB here. But then I reminded myself that he's a Raider... therefore I decided to swing hard on Hill. His workload will be limited with Gio, BUT BJG is on the way out/down and Hill will get touches in this offense. One Gio injury away and he could be big. I like his skill set...

Ya no kidding.. I hope I don't regret passing on Hill and taking Crowell...
