2016 Rookie draft thread!

Post by Wascawy Wabbits » Wed May 11, 2016 8:03 am

Heading into the third round, lets get this thread going!

I'm all done my picks now, so here goes

1.4 - Corey "CoCo" Coleman: This was a pretty simple pick, draft whoever fell from the consensus top 4. Last year I used the #4 pick after a trade up and acquired Kevin White (sucks he was injured all of last year), this year it's Corey Coleman. I think I would've been happy with any player that was available at 1.4, although I began to grow to like Coleman a little more over Doctson. When MIN drafted Treadwell, I knew that it was pretty much a lock that Poker was gonna be picking him at the 1.2, so I had no idea what way Geeks would be leaning. After Doctson went off the board I had a big smile on my face knowing that I had CoCo sitting there waiting for me. The kid's an athletic freak and I'm stoked to have him on my team. The Browns are currently an iffy situation, but they seem to be righting that ship and now have a great HC in Hue Jackson and seemed to be setting themselves up for future success. Coleman's definitely a "luxury" pick given my current WR depth, he probably won't sniff my starting lineup this season and looks like he's my WR8 as of today, but I'll happily roster him and watch him develop! I'm hoping that by the time Keenan Allen and Dez Bryant's contracts are up prior to the 2018 season, that I can rely on Corey Coleman to step up and fill one of those starter roles.

1.12 - Traded to FRA for a 2017 1sts and the 2.18. I was targeting Procise and Goff with this pick, and they went 1.10 & 1.11 to Poker & Vit so I'm glad I didn't end up keeping it. Probably would've considered drafting Boyd if I kept it.

1.14 - Austin Hooper: Had a few guys on my list for this pick and came close to making a trade, but things didn't work out so I went with drafting Austin Hooper. Hunter Henry was the 1st TE drafted, but Gates is still pretty great and blocking him for at least a year or two, so I went with Austin Hooper who I think should be starting pretty early in his career, maybe by mid-season? Jacob Tamme is meh and Levine Toilolo is basically an OL playing TE. Tons of opportunity to become Matt Ryan's favourite target behind Julio Jones. Tyler Eifert hasn't exactly been a beacon of good health, so here's to hoping that if he gets injured I have a solid backup plan in Hooper.

2.10 - DeAndre Washington: Oakland has built a beast of an OL and I don't think they have a ton of confidence in Latavius Murray. One injury or a couple of rough outings and Washington could supplant Murray as the starter in Oakland.

2.16 - Traded to Poker pre-draft for the rights to Brett Hundley. Figured that owning Rodgers' backup would be more beneficial for my team this season then drafting a rookie QB w/ one of my first round picks. If Rodgers goes down, I think Hundley can carry the team. He showed a ton of promise last season and GB was confident enough to let Tolzien walk and not sign or draft another backup. If he does end up having another strong preseason, maybe GB trades him to become another teams starter next offseason.

2.18 - Put a bunch of offers out and had some counters on it but ended up using the pick to draft Pharoh Cooper. I had a couple other guys I was considering here as well but he's been ranked in the teens by tons of rookie rankings so I figured I'd save him from falling further. Again, this is a dude that won't sniff my lineup anytime soon, but he was BPA and he slid quite a bit in our draft. Sure, he ended up w/ the Rams, but Goff has to throw to someone and the WR depth chart there is a barren wasteland. Welcome to my bench, Coop.

1.1 - Zeke: No brainer, duh.

1.17 - Paxton Lynch: I've been stocking up on rookie QBs for the last 3 drafts now. Once I saw Lynch drop enough to where I could trade my 2017 1st for him, I started making offers. Love Lynch's potential in Denver. Had 2.01 and 2.03 and wanted to land Lynch, Perkins, and Hunter. Tried to figure out which 2 were likely targets for Poker in the Rear. Chose Lynch here because I thought Poker was light at QB and may take him.

2.1 - Paul Perkins: Have been stocking up on him in several leagues. Love the price tag on him, for his potential. Giants have nothing really blocking him from taking over. Was between Hunter Henry and Perkins here, but I thought Perkins was BPA. Also made a mistake and didn't notice Hooper was drafted already! Thought Poker may take TE since he only had Pruitt, but was okay with either Henry or Hooper.

2.3 - Hunter Henry: Glad Poker didn't take him! Like I said, I incorrectly thought Hooper was also still left. Would have been real upset if Poker chose Henry and I went looking for Hooper only to find he wasn't there! If I could take it back, Henry probably would have went 2.1 and Perkins 2.3. Curious to hear from Poker if he would have chose Perkins at 2.2, or if my decision even mattered.

Not going on for me this year.

1.13: traded for 1.17 and 2.04 (didn't like anyone is particular, had a couple guys in mind I figured I could get later)

1.17: Traded for 2017 1st from DD (still like 3 or 4 guys all ranked about the same on my board, happily take the first even if DD wins it all)

2.04: Keith Marshall, RB Wash- who? IDK. I paid for the RSP and he was highly ranked in that. Didn't even watch a clip or read a word about him until I was on the clock for this pick, just knew he ran fast at the combine and was picked way late. Figured Perkins would still be here. If J. Hill and D. Johnson made it to 2.5 the last couple years, Perk should easily be there... guess not. Would trade him for any future first though, so no regret on that move... same on Hunter Henry who would've been my selection there at 1.17 since I was hopeful PP would be there in the 2nd.

2.13: Cardale Jones, QB- Bla-dow! Remember Culpepper to Moss? 12 Gauge and Sammykins gonna bring those bombs back. Super low risk, super high potential. I love this pick and can't wait to follow the story as it develops. Even if the destination looks more like Jamarus than Daunte, the price of the ticket is well worth taking the trip. Would love to name him the Decleaters' starting quarterback for the 2018-19 season opener after giving him 2 years to learn the position behind DangerRuss :p

1.03 Josh Doctson WR - I thought I'd get Ezekiel Elliott here, but ....... then I woke up from that dream. My pre-combine, predraft rankings had Coleman as the top receiver in this draft. Doctson started pulling away from Coleman for me after the combine. He was among the top performers in every event and his 40 time was better than anticipated. Doctson is more NFL ready as he runs the entire route tree and is considered to have great hands (a concern with Coleman) and body control.

After the NFL draft, Doctson became entrenched as my top receiver. Washington is building a productive passing offense, while Cleveland is well ........ Cleveland. I still believe that Coleman will be successful, but I like Doctsons' chances more.

1.09 Kenneth Dixon RB - Dixon has all tools to be a 3 down back in the NFL. He is a tough, physical runner with a second gear to hit the big play. He is a reliable receiver and adept at blitz pickups, which will keep him on the field on passing downs. Allen and Forsett will compete for playing time, but I see Dixon taking the lead.

3.09 Tajae Sharpe WR - I was torn between Sharpe and Ricardo Lewis, who went the pick after I took Sharpe. Ultimately, I chose Sharpe because of his hands, route running and his ability to play outside and in the slot. His versatility should get him on the field earlier and in more situations. At 3.09, he is a long shot, but he's my long shot.

Before the draft I had no picks. But I picked up a couple including 1.06 trading away Hyde as I continue the spiral into full rebuild mode after trading it all away last year to win it.

1.06 - WR, Sterling Shepard, NYG
I figured that I'd get either Thomas or Shepard here. Very happy with Shepard as he should get an opportunity to start right away and should be a rock solid guy when I get back to competing again in a year or two.

3.16 - RB, Daniel Lasco, NO
Honestly very happy with this pick. I was really shocked that he lasted all the way to the end, he's been going much earlier in most dynasty drafts I've seen. All I can say is this: Spiller is done, Ingram is not the picture of health and the Saints have no problem putting in RBs with little draft stock. Get this guy in your other dyno leagues.

I noticed he hadn't been picked at 3.14 and thought that if I were to put a bid on anyone when we were allowed to sign UDFA's, he probably would've been it.

It'll be fun seeing who ends up being the top guy in a couple years time. I loved watching the highlight vids of Josh Doctson! I would've been happy with any of the top 3 WRs sitting there at pick 4.

I feel the same, I would have welcomed any of the 3. Treadwell eventually moved up to the top WR on my draft board after some of my concerns about him were alleviated. Doctson was a close second in my opinion, and Coleman not far behind him. Can't wait to see them in action.

I just drafted him at pick 5.05 in another league!

I had him targeted at 4.05, if he was still there, but Austin Hooper was still there. I didn't think there was a chance that he be there at my pick in round 5.

Really surprised at the number of UDFA rookies that have gone up for auction this year.

Does it seem like there have been a decent decent Amount more then in years past?

Does seem like more than usual. This draft lacked sure things, but offered many lottery tickets. I think that's why we see all the UDFAs.

Probably a few more than usual, but definitely less competition for what's there. Only one guy (the MIA tweener) had multiple bids on him. It's not uncommon to see an UDFA from our draft go for 800+k.

I believe that it's illegal to bid on a Miami Tweener in 48 states and the District of Columbia.
