Confirming Auction Draft Date

Post by bonscott » Fri Mar 11, 2011 9:40 am

League calendar says the Auction starts Tuesday the 22nd at noon. Just wanted to confirm that we are starting that date/time and that everyone is available for it. Because if so, I better start doing some research. :yippee:

Tough to get too excited about free agency w/ the news of the NFLPA decertification today.

Wonder if we should hold off a few weeks. But then again several people haven't been on the site in 3+ weeks so it would be hard to get a vote.

I would be fine with delaying the auction draft.

What would be the reason and hope with delaying the auction a couple weeks?

Seems like this thing is going to drag on a couple more months IMO.....

Yea. Probably the biggest issue with delaying is if we put it off until summer we run into the problem of owners on summer vacation.

I agree, this lockout is probably going to last until summer I'd guess.

I'm fine either way but the more I think about it the more we're all screwed and just have to suck it up.

Yes, I agree this thing is dragging on whether we like it or not for a couple more months IMO. I think the best call is to decide between two choices of sorts... Start auction as planned and what is in constitution, yes we are ALL at a disadvantage, but this year is abnormal, just have to deal it. We all are still on same playing field. Other choice would be pick a date in summer (yes run risk of vacations), like in July, and set the date in "stone" so we all know what to expect. Of course there is no gaurantee the lockout would be solved in July too. Bottom-line, if we push it back, let's push it back till summer, not a couple weeks. Make it simple, either draft as planned and what's written in rules or amend it and draft in July (for example). One problem is not every owner is around to agree upon a date in the summer, which helps me lean to starting auction as planned in rules....

IF the NFL season starts as planned that is not until September 8th. IMO we have have plenty of time to wait before running our FA auction.

Also, just because the site shows a team hasn't logged in for weeks doesn't mean they aren't watching. You can still see everything when you're not logged in.

I'd be fine with a delay if we can all agree on a good week to start. I just finally got a job so I'm not looking at taking any time off this summer. The past seems to indicate the auction will complete usually within 10 days or so.

For example we could shoot for the week after July 4th to start the auction and have a rookie draft early August or something like that.

I also feel that if the NFL does hold the draft before their free agency starts that we should do the same. We are "The League" after all.

I agree, its normal for us to to hold our auction way early in the offseason and then do the draft. It gives us something fun to do when most of our other leagues are dormant.

We could easily hold off for a month and still not have a collective bargaining agreement. So we'd be in the same position we are in now. Its also very likely that the deal won't get done until the summer and quite possibly late summer just before the season and I don't want to hold the main part of the auction draft then and try to compete with weddings, vacations etc and all of our other leagues. That would end up being really unfair to someone and even though holding it now has its challenges its at least the same for everyone. If we wait, it could end up screwing over one or 2 owners. Even if we voted 15-1 on a time and the one guy who voted no, does so because he is on vacation, I don't think that is better for the league as a whole. :2cents:

I think we should go ahead with the set date. It's pretty much the same as any other year but with a tad bit more uncertainty (will there be RFA's under the next CBA?... if not guys like James Jones and DeAngelo Williams will prob have new teams)

I'm pretty disappointed there won't be any UDFA available to draft this year. I've got two that seem to be panning out from last year (B. White/Ivory)
