Rookies and Contracts
Just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly with the draft right around the corner...
1) We do not have to assign contract lengths to rookies who are drafted in May until August
2) Rookies who go undrafted and are acquired in free agency after the draft have to have contracts assigned within 48 hours?

Re: Rookies and Contracts
And last year the commish went and assigned 5 yr contracts to all rookies if there was cap room as that made it easier on him come August since most people put 5 yrs on guys. But no matter what it says you can change it up anytime by the August cut down day.

I've always been a big fan of the NFL draft, but being in this league has sure brought it up a notch. Can't wait.

Re: Rookies and Contracts
Do Rookie salaries get assigned at the time of the draft? Or at the time when we determine contract length?

As Brandon gets time during the draft he will update the salary. And as the rules state you *must* have enough cap space to sign your rookies. Remember though being on the taxi squad only costs 50% of salary.Wascawy Wabbits wrote:Do Rookie salaries get assigned at the time of the draft? Or at the time when we determine contract length?

If a player gets put on the taxi squad at 50% cap hit, then comes off it, can a rookie UDFA take that taxi squad spot?

Re: Rookies and Contracts
And it's not a cap "hit". It's 50% of salary. Any rookie (no matter how you got him) can take up one of 3 TS spots which only cost 50% of salary. So say you draft a rookie with a $4,000,000 salary. If he's on your active roster he takes up 4 mil of your salary cap. However if you have him on your TS he only takes up 2 mil of salary cap space. If you promote him then it's 4 mil again so you'd need at least 2 mil free cap space to be able to activate him. And you can put him back on the TS the following week if you want. Unlimited moves on and off the TS but they have to be rookies (which FYI isn't actually enforced by the web site so we all have to police ourselves).

Re: Rookies and Contracts
With rookies signed during FA, do we have to assign a contract to them within 48hrs or do we get to wait to assign contracts like those that we drafted?

Re: Rookies and Contracts
Thats why i moved back into the 3rd round to get Egnew - I knew that if he lasted through the draft I was going to be on the hook for assigning a contract now. This gives me plenty of time to see if it looks like he will actually develop given the skepticism surrounding him.bonesman wrote:any player got through the auction is subject to the time limit, rookie or no.
