New NFL Injured Reserve rule
So the NFL has a new IR rule. Each NFL team can place 1 player on IR that they can take off IR halfway thru the season. Our current fantasy rule says once a player goes on IR they are there for the whole season.
For example, I have Vincent Brown. He was placed on IR today. I could IR him if I choose. However, in 6-8 weeks he will no longer be on NFL IR as they will activate him back to the roster. Thus he no longer qualifies for IR in the fantasy league since his status won't be (I) anymore.
Should we modify our IR rule to accommodation for this? Basically if a player we IR no longer is on NFL IR we can (well actually we should have to by rule) take him off IR as well.
I think this is probably more a clarification of our IR rule since we now have two conflicting rules. On one hand only players on NFL IR can be placed on fantasy IR and on the other hand the rule states once a player goes on IR they are there all season. So the first rule would be violated in this new world the NFL has created with IR. My thought is to simply follow the NFL in that if a player on fantasy IR no longer qualifies we must take that player off IR or release them.
Thoughts?

I agree.
It's actually a good thing I noticed it. I didn't know about that new rule and for some reason I glanced at Brown's news blurb longer then to just see he went on IR and it said something about this new NFL IR designation.
We'd have a mess on our hands if I had just IR'd him (and maybe others in the league too) and in 6 weeks all of a sudden he's no longer on IR. Then what do we do? LOL
I don't think this is one that really needs a vote, just a commish ruling on clarification of the rule.

I agree.
Two options to handle this:
We keep MFL setup as is and when/if you need to activate a player you just contact me and I can remove them from the IR. You won't be able to submit a lineup if you have a violation so should service as a reminder if it comes up.
Or we allow people to move people on and off the IR as they wish. The issue with this could be if a person moved a player off IR onto the active roster to meet the minimum roster requirement. Normally though the reason you put a player on the IR is to free up a roster spot since that's the only advantage it gives you.
I think both are pretty minor issue's.

Usually, when the commissioner has a good team, these are the kind of polls you see...

Re: New NFL Injured Reserve rule
I'm good either way. It's probably easiest (and less manual work) to just "open" IR up to move guys on and off. I think the only reason we stated that once you IR they are there all season is because we only allow players on NFL IR to be on fantasy IR and they would be there all season. Now that is no longer the case.
So I'd go with just allowing us to manage IR as we please (but obviously keep the requirement they must be on NFL IR) that way we don't run into an issue where you as commish need to move a guy off IR but you're not available and we're unable to submit a lineup because of it. There is no advantage to allowing IR players back on the active roster in my mind.

Curious if the issue I have with Jahvid Best applies with him being on the PUP? Does he qualify for an IR slot? Or does he have to be listed as IR with the NFL as opposed to PUP?

Makes sense to me, that's how we have it setup now.bonscott wrote:I'm good either way. It's probably easiest (and less manual work) to just "open" IR up to move guys on and off.
