I'll stop by his cube and smack him if he's asleep.
As for me, I've got in-laws visiting all weekend so I'll be sparse on my availability other then perhaps Saturday afternoon. But I'll be able to keep an eye on it and queue up some picks if mine get close.

Re: Draft will begin this Friday!!!
Also, just to make sure I've got it right and everyone understands, we have until mid August to actually assign contracts to rookies. Per the rules:
3rd sunday in August 11:59pm PT teams must declare contract years for all rookies drafted in May.
Now my assumption is that once we assign a contract greater then 1 that it's locked in and can't be changed. So if someone gives a guy a contract of 5 say next week, that's locked in, correct? I can't come back in August and have it changed to a 2 or something.
And once the deadline passes the contracts are locked in period. So if I never gave a rookie a longer contract I have him at a 1 contract, correct? I bring this up because we now just give a contract of 1 to all players added to a team to make it easier and thus this is in conflict with the following rule:
All Rookies acquired in the rookie draft must be assigned a contract prior to the third sunday in August each year. If no contract is offered by the deadline that player will be removed from the team's roster at at 50% cap hit.
I would think we could actually do away with this rule since all our rookies will have a contract of 1 and we can make them longer if we choose by the deadline. And of course we are free to drop them at any time and take the associated cap hit at that time.
Just want to make sure.

Re: Draft will begin this Friday!!!
Starting next year we will need a rule similar to this seeing teams will be allowed to go over the 22 man limit during the off season and any teams over 22 will need to cut down by the third sunday in August.bonscott wrote:And once the deadline passes the contracts are locked in period. Re: Draft will begin this Friday!!!
I think my only reason for bringing this up is that now when a player is added to our roster they get an automatic 1 year contract. If we want to assign a longer contract we post on the forum within 24 hours or so, otherwise they default to 1 (instead of being dropped as we previously had the rule).Achon44 wrote:Starting next year we will need a rule similar to this seeing teams will be allowed to go over the 22 man limit during the off season and any teams over 22 will need to cut down by the third sunday in August.bonscott wrote:And once the deadline passes the contracts are locked in period. So now the same thing really applies to rookies as well. When we draft rookies they will automatically get a 1 year contract. But we have until 3rd week of August to assign a longer contract if we want, otherwise they default to 1 instead of being dropped.
But perhaps what you're thinking of is that we need a deadline to get under the 20 + 2 rookie man limit and need a process of what happens if you don't.

Re: Draft will begin this Friday!!!
You have until the 3rd Sunday in August deadline to offer/change your rookie contracts, once that date passes they are locked in.
I'll address the other portion in a new rules thread.

Yeah basically you don't have to declare a contract but if you are pretty sure what you want, go ahead and let me know before you forget, but you are free to change your mind if you want.

Sounds good. The smart move is to not declare until August but I can see someone doing what I just posted so I wanted to just make it all clear that it's covered before there are any problems.

Re: Draft will begin this Friday!!!
Another question - I presume that it is OK to trade the rookie's drafted in the upcoming draft prior to the August deadline to establish contracts years. For example if someone drafts Darren McFadden they can trade him without establishing a contract length as long as the trade occurs prior to the August deadline - correct?

Sure, the new team would retain the rights to offer him a contract anytime prior to the August deadline.yugimoto wrote:Another question - I presume that it is OK to trade the rookie's drafted in the upcoming draft prior to the August deadline to establish contracts years. yea... but I'm assuming from this thread that he can pick anytime now.
BTW... where did you go to queue your pick?

No, he can't pick until the draft actually starts. I think the commish was just asking Jmac when he would be available today.bonesman wrote:bonscott wrote:

Pre-drafts:
In the For Owners menu are several draft options.
The first option "Draft" will allow you to pre-draft each pick. The highest player in your list still available when your pick is up will automatically be drafted. If none of them on your list is available then the clock starts counting.
The My Draft list I don't really understand it's use. I think it's for perhaps organizing a list for an online live draft but I think it can also be used for our slow draft. But I highly recommend doing a pre-draft instead, it's so easy and not confusing (to me anyway).

12 hour timer, right?
That will actually be pretty cool to try and work trades. Just like the NFL draft. I'm not going to get on anybody that takes up their 12 hours.
If you want to trade down, look me up.

Commish,
Have you considered giving Bowbie a call about his pick(s)? He did post in the previous draft thread that he would be out of town for a bachelor party this weekend and mentioned calling him as an option.

Just sent him a text, but I'm pretty sure he won't get it considering its 3am on the east coast right now.
Mike, if you get this after your pick expires post who you want out of the guys that are still available. Since we don't really have a rule on it I'll use the NFL rules

With the next pick of the draft I'll select the hot blonde with big hooters.
Oh, that's a different draft.
By the way guys, this is why you can pre-draft if you're going to be away for a while.
