Time Deadline for bidding on Tagged players

Commish,

In watching the bidding going on for Greg Jennings, it occured to me that this is probably the first time we have had "extended" bidding on a tagged player. This got me thinking about ebay bidding and those last minute bids that normally occur.

Which leads me to my question. We know the last day to bid on a player is Feb 28th, but what is the time cutoff on the 28th?

I would presume we would want it to be fairly early on the 28th so as to be fair to the folks on the East Coast, but I did not see a time cutoff in the constitution.

Thought I would ask now to hopefully avoid any confusion later.

Thanks,
DMOC

That is an interesting question....especially so since it could come down to who "snipes" at the last second which we don't want.

Maybe we need to amend the rules slightly to say this: Deadline is 10pm EST/7pm PST on Feb 28th. If there has been a bid within 12 hours of this time then bidding continues into "overtime". Once 12 hours has passed with no further bid then bidding is closed.

So if there has been no bid since 10am EST/7am PST then the auction is closed. If there has been a bid after that time then we'll use the 12 hour rule. More bids can happen then the 12 hour clock starts again. Similar to our auction timer of 36 hours.

I would *think* this would be good enough as there should come a point where a guy gets too expensive. There is a week until March 7th for owners to match the bids. If for some reason a player like Jennings is still being bid on then the auction doesn't start until the 15th or later so there is still time. If worse comes to worse just delay the auction until said player finally goes 12 hours with no bid and give the current owner say 2 days to match.

That should cover all scenarios. Sounds a bit complicated but in no way do I want there to be a last second snipe of a player. That's just wrong.

That sounds good to me, no way we want last second "snipes" of players for tags......

Also I don't think this is really something that needs to be voted on. Besides the little amount of time before the deadline it's more of a clarification for something we didn't think of 3 yrs ago. This solution should get us thru this year and if it's not the best we can come up with something better next year. But on the whole I think it's a fair way to do it all around.

I completely agree that we should change the rule and glancing over the proposal I think its a good way to do it, I really like the "overtime" that's perfect. I'd probably like the deadline pushed back an hour to 11ET/8PT, I think 7 is to early for us on the west coast. I'd like to see it voted on and probably left open to discus for a bit longer to get as many perspectives and ideas as possible.

In terms of this season, I don't see how we can change it. I think the rule now is clear just not well thought out, you have to make a bid on Feb 28th; and our constitution says the we use pacific time as the official league time. So it seems like 11:59pm PT is the current deadline.

I really hate the idea of "sniping" and I won't. Also the current deadline is obviously much better for someone on the west coast so I'm not going to wait till the last few hours, but from my perspective the current bidding on Jennings has been fairly consistent anyway and keep in mind, players that are tagged are already close to market value, so I don't think any bid, by anyone, at this point is really sniping its to the point where you need to put out your best offer (most your willing to spend) and hope for the best. If its higher than the last guy awake is willing to make he just won't make a bid anyways.
