FA Auction Idea - Incremental Bid Amounts Increase
I have no idea if or now this would work, but what if the incremental bid amounts increased w/ the less time that remains on the clock?
5hrs remaining: Min Bid increases from 25k to 50k
4hrs remaining: Min Bid increases from 50k to 100k
3hrs remaining: Min bid increases from 100k to 250k
2hrs remaining: Min bid increases from 250k to 500k
Dunno if this is something that would be wanted at all, just a thought.

Re: FA Auction Idea - Incremental Bid Amounts Increase
I know that part of the fun of FA is making someone pay for their player when they're coming up to end and giving them a friendly salary bump or two.
Not trying to single out anyone at all with this idea based on the comments from the Free Agency 2014 thread.

The idea is that if you wanna bump em, you'll be at a greater "risk" of taking on that contract with the min bid amount increased

I think the first problem we would run into, if this was possible to set up, is what if the player being bid on is only at $425,000. You would have to bid a minimum of $500,000 during the last 2hrs?Wascawy Wabbits wrote:I have no idea if or now this would work, but what if the incremental bid amounts increased w/ the less time that remains on the clock?

In this instance, if the proxy bid was set at $1m, you'd be pumping that player up to 925k if you're putting the min bid. If the proxy was set at 750k, you'd end up taking that player over at 775k and then could choose to adjust your proxy afterwards. I think the idea would be that it adds a little more "risk" by upping the salaries the closer to their time ending.Achon44 wrote:I think the first problem we would run into, if this was possible to set up, is what if the player being bid on is only at $425,000. Re: FA Auction Idea - Incremental Bid Amounts Increase
Well, the point is moot since there is no way to do this in the MFL software so it's basically not possible.
Second, if I hold a high bid and I want someone to "pay" to bump me by possibly getting stuck with the player then I simply lower my proxy bid. I did that with Jericho and someone bumped me and got stuck with him (unless he really wanted him that is).
I could have done the same with Marshall. I knew with a bid of 12 mil even that whomever bumped figured that my proxy was over that and thus didn't want to go up that next spot to 12 mil and 25K as that's a common bid. How surprised he would have been if my proxy was 11,975,000 and he got him with that 12 mil bid.
So basically I don't see this as a problem, I can control it with how I set my proxy bid and if I really, really want a player and thus have a high proxy, well, then I better be willing to pay all of that bid (as I should since I'm bidding that amount).

Okay, and what if the proxy is set 900K and I don't want to spend more than 600k. I'd have to bid 925k and end up taking over the high bid.Wascawy Wabbits wrote:In this instance, if the proxy bid was set at $1m, you'd be pumping that player up to 925k if you're putting the min bid. Yes, I did want him. I was actually worried that they would announce him signing with Carolina before I won him and somebody would outbid my proxy of 500k.bonscott wrote:I did that with Jericho and someone bumped me and got stuck with him (unless he really wanted him that is).

I don't like it as not all late bids are malicious bumps. Sometimes you're just not around or didn't notice a guy you liked was at a salary you'd be willing to pay.
Or maybe you had $$$ on a guy and he gets bid up past what you'd pay, so then you sincerely go after a guy who's timer is ending soon.
