So we should probably vote on this now before the end of the season while everyone is still around.
Here is proposal language in my mind:
After the end of week 13 FCFS (Sunday 1pm EST), any players that are dropped from a team cannot be signed to more then the default 1 yr contract for the rest of the season.
Short and simple.
We can then evaluate it after the next year or two if we feel Week 13 is too late and need to move it back like to the trade deadline, which in my other leagues seems to have proven to be the "sweet spot" for this type of thing.
Freeze salaries after trade deadline or...

Hope you guys don't mind the new guy chiming in...
We had a similar situation in one of my other leagues. We don't use salaries, but have a contract cap. We don't allow non-playoff teams from picking up free agents during the playoffs. So that they are not at a disadvantage in signing players long term, we allow playoff teams to sign FA's to contracts only for the remainder of the year, so that the player returns to the free agent pool for all to pursue.
This was a simple and effective change. I don't yet know the nuances of a salary cap league like this, but from what I've read, I think this same approach could be effectively applied.

Please chime in early and often. We already voted on this particular issue though but it sounds like it'll work out similar to your league. We'll allow all teams to sign guys for the remainder of the season but not beyond that current season.
