Vote! Should we add this to the end of season waivers rule?
After the end of the week 13 FCFS waiver period (Sunday 1pm EST), any players that are dropped from a team cannot be signed to more then the default 1 yr contract for the rest of the season.

Usually, when the commissioner has a good team, these are the kind of polls you see...

Re: Vote! Should we add this to the end of season waivers rule?
Just a bump up of this new rule we passed last year.
However I've had someone ask me a question on this and I can see how it may be unclear.
My understanding of the spirit of the rule is that any player added to a team in waivers/FCFS starting in week 14 (next week) can only be signed to a 1 year contract.
However the wording below can be taken to say that any player dropped this week can still be signed to a longer term contract if picked up next week. This doesn't really make sense to me as then we'd have to track who was dropped this week vs. all other free agents.
So can we get a clarification on this? My assumption is simply this:
Any player picked up yet this week can be signed to a long term contract. Starting next week (week 14) only 1 year contracts are allowed.

mmmmmmm... I don't see that at all. I thought we worded the rule specifically to allow people to take a chance of a future player at any time.bonscott wrote: My understanding of the spirit of the rule is that any player added to a team in waivers/FCFS starting in week 14 (next week) can only be signed to a 1 year contract.
The spirit of the rule is that any "proven" player who gets CUT cannot be signed to multiple years. Or so I thought.

You are correct but how do you police or who decides what is a proven player and who is not. Thus it's an all or nothing deal. To avoid Andre Johnson on a 1 yr from being dropped and signed the following week for cheaper and multiple years we had to stop all long term contracts and the start of the playoffs is what made sense. I cannot pick up a prospect in week 15 and sign to a long term contract per this rule for example, but I still could this week.bonesman wrote:mmmmmmm... I don't see that at all. I think the only slight question is the way it's worded someone could take it to mean a player dropped this week could still be signed to a long term contract next week. But I think that is against the spirit of the rule which is any player signed starting next week is signed to a 1 yr only.

If they are on a roster before the "week 13 FCFS waiver period (Sunday 1pm EST)"bonscott wrote: You are correct but how do you police or who decides what is a proven player and who is not.
Here is the thread where we hashed it out:

So then I don't actually understand what the question was?
If drops only are limited to a 1 year contract, what was the issue you raised in the PM to me? I'm confoosed. Not hard, it's been a long day at work. I need a

My question relates to when "After the end of the week 13 FCFS waiver period (Sunday 1pm EST)" takes place.... and since the wording of the rule talks about dropped players and not the acquiring of dropped players, can a player be dropped now and not be available to slap multiple years on. (A second owner couldn't get him until waivers run next week... but since he was technically dropped before Sunday 1pm EST, it looks like he'd be available for a multiyear contract). Ya know?

Sorry guys i'm on vacation so I haven't checked in very often this week. Its really poorly worded, but I think its supposed to be any player that is dropped after this Sunday at 1pm ET cant be signed longer than one year.

Re: Vote! Should we add this to the end of season waivers rule?
Sounds right. So anyone dropped this week could still be signed next week and beyond at a multi-year contract. Anyone dropped starting with next Wednesday's waivers could only be signed to a 1 year deal.
Good thing this came up because I only vaguely remembered this rule change and I thought it was any player added after this week could only be on a 1 year deal, not that any player dropped and then added would only be a 1 year deal. Big difference.

Hmmm. So what would that have gained you over dropping Green this week?bonesman wrote:I should've dropped Green and Stoker for BigGame Dwayne last week... dang.

Re: Vote! Should we add this to the end of season waivers rule?
This week I was gonna cut Desean Jackson if noone would be able to put years on him. That's why I was asking.
I've been thinking of adding Dwayne Harris for a few weeks now and the only way I could see doing it without cutting anyone good was those 2 TEs (I barely have 100k in capspace)... but looking at the scarcity of expiring contracts at that position I decided to hold on (hell, Julius Thomas netted me Russel Wilson, I'm hanging on to Virgil Green)
