2nd Waivers or FCFS in 2011?

Ok, something we need to clear up. In the offseason we voted to have FCFS after our mid-week waivers. Problem is that most of us forgot we had voted on a 2nd waiver period the previous year which we then did here in 2010.

So now what do we do going forward?

Just keep doing the 2nd waiver period like we did in 2010 or go with FCFS?

Personally I don't mind either way. I didn't have a problem with the 2nd waiver period and keeping that is fine by me. It seems a good number of the league members here aren't able to get online a lot during the day or even in the evening sometimes so FCFS might not be a good way to go and just stick with waivers.

In terms of how we'll handle the process, I think we just follow our rules and if we want to change it we have to bring it up for vote and same rules apply.

---------------

I'm intrigued by the idea of having a FCFS period after everyone clears the first waivers window, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it works next year. We could use either system and I would be good with it. I thought the 2 waiver windows was much better than when we had just one, but at the same time I'm looking forward to comparing it to the FCFS window we voted on for use in 2011.

I guess my point is that when we voted for FCFS we didn't realize that we were going to have a 2nd waiver window this year. Otherwise we probably wouldn't have even discussed it since there really wouldn't be a need. But maybe it was just me that didn't realize that.

So what you're saying is that we change to FCFS (instead of the 2nd waiver window) in 2011 since it was voted in and then go from there. Got it.

Your right, I don't think anyone remembered what we voted on until it was to late but since its kind of weird situation I'd rather just lean on our constitution and let it sort itself out that way. Outside of a unanimous decision to go with 2 waiver windows, I can't think of a way to sort it out that doesn't go against how we said we would handle rule changes when we setup the league initially.

One alternative if 75% of the league agrees would be to make up a rule this off season that states that after trying both systems, we vote in the off season and simple majority determines the system we'll use going forward??

my :2cents: :

We should at least have a revote. Though I think the FCFS vote should be considered null and void. It was voted on under false pretense. There was also a low voter turn out (50%)... possibly because we voted a couple weeks before the season started, and people were busy w/ other redraft leagues and stuff.

Anyway, if we do go FCFS in 2011, I don't think we ever agreed on a salary for those players... so we should have a vote on that and I'd nominate that there be a premium paid (say, twice the minimum) for plucked players.

We discussed it here:

http://forum.theleague.us/viewtopic.php ... 84&start=0

And then we voted on it here:

http://forum.theleague.us/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=779
Weekly Waivers:
* Blind Bidding Sunday 1pm thru Thursday 9:45pm
* FCFS from Thursday 10pm thru Sunday 12:45pm

On weeks with Thursday games Blind Bidding ends Wednesday at 4pm. FCFS will be unchanged.

Misc settings:
* Salary for FCFS is league minimum. Contracts beyond 1 yr must be declared within 24 hours or before kickoff of the players game, whichever comes first
* Lock players from FCFS once their game has started
* All dropped players during the week from either period are locked until Sunday 1:15pm (and thus have to go thru a bidding period first).
I reread some of the discussion just to refresh my memory and even though some people including myself forgot that we voted on it when bonscott re-opened the dialog, we did have a thorough discussion on this issue for over 2 years and we looked at both 2 blind biding periods and 1 BB and 1 FCFS in the thread.

I have no problem voting on it again but its not as though we didn't understand that 2 BB was an option last year. The vote to go with 2 BB was only 9-1 so one extra person voted in that thread.

I just think we will have a much more informed opinion if we try both systems than if we vote on this for a 3rd time in 3 years, without having the benefit of experiencing one of the options.

Here's a suggestion along the thought process of "giving it a try". Why not keep the two current blind bid windows and add the FCFS window to start after the 2nd blind window (Noon PST on Saturday) and close at the start of the first game on Sunday?

This way we would have a window to handle an "Oh Crap" moment happening over the weekend, like my kicker pulls his hammy playing Wii at home and is suddenly declared out. Also in today's NFL there are so many games played with the injury report it would be nice to have an open window for pickups prior to the start of the first Sunday game.

Also, I would recommend the salary for the FCFS is the league minimum. If a player clears two rounds of blind bid waivers and is then picked up, I do not see a reason why there should be a premium.

If we do this and then folks like the FCFS window option we could then look to vote on whether on not to keep the 2nd blind bid window or not next season as well as vote if we want to keep a FCFS window or not.

Just a thought.

I am fine either way... if we have folks across the country - then FCFS could be more difficult
