Draft 2012 smack talk
The consensus top 6 fly off the board. RGIII was a surprise at 2. I projected Blackmon there, RGIII to Midwest and then Luck to Executioners.
This is where things can get interesting... and to top it off, LV Elite was quoted as saying how his selection at number 7 is going to be a "big surprise". Tough to do at this point IMO... but we'll see.

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
With Vit involved nothing is a surprise!!
You're right though, the best players are now off the board and no surprises in who went so far. WW got two really good players and I had Floyd a little higher than Blackmon given his situation.
Hopefully today moves a little faster than yesterday

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
It's actually not a surprise given who Luck and RGIII are but this is certainly the earliest a QB has ever gone in any of our rookie drafts. I believe the earliest has been pick 7, maybe 9 (I took Stafford with the 9th pick). QBs seem to fall, but not with the big 2 this year.

Yeah and given what Cam did last year, passing on RG3 could come back to haunt a guy. Especially since he has the smarts to go along with the athleticism

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Guys I expected to still be on the board at the #6 spot when I traded for it at the beginning of March ended up being picks 2-4
Was a huge surprise to see RG3 to go at the #2 spot, especially with Vit now committing over $13m to the QB position between Vick, Palmer, and RG3
I was expecting Martin or Blackmon to go #2, RG3 then Luck, then whoever Executioners favoured most between Martin, Blackmon, and Floyd.
I was going to be happy with whoever fell to me at the #6 spot. I was actually hoping to see one of the QBs fall to that spot so I could somehow leverage that into a trade, but oh well.
Building up my stable of young promising WR's
I don't think LV Elite surprised anyone with his pick at #7 Wilson, IMO, rounds out the top 7.
I think from 8 on is where it'll get interesting...

Yep, top 7 was solid.Wascawy Wabbits wrote: I think from 8 on is where it'll get interesting...
But 8+ it's all a crapshoot now with a bunch of guys that either won't start right away or will take some time to develop. So anyone could be drafted anywhere although salaries will still play a big part for a few more picks.

I was surprised by RGIII at 1.02 as well. Was prepared to take RGIII or Luck at 1.04, but I traded down knowing both QB's could go ahead of me...just didn't expect it. Perfectly fine with Martin though, he'll be a beast.

Nope... played it safe and went with the consensus pick... as expected. Though I was thinkin he'd go Alshon (Bears fan) or Wright to bolster those WRs.Wascawy Wabbits wrote:I don't think LV Elite surprised anyone with his pick at #7 Wilson, IMO, rounds out the top 7.
Gotta say I'm glad Degen went with Fleener. He was someone I was looking at for months, but didn't want to select or pass on... that's not a concern now.

BPA to improve my franchise! Love that Wilson fell to me.... although I BANKED on Alshon falling to me at 13th! Shoulda figured another Bears fan would snag him right before my pick....bonesman wrote:Nope... played it safe and went with the consensus pick... as expected. Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Well, as I said in my comment, Alshon was not my first choice, I wanted Tannehil but he went right before my pick. So then it was really between Alshon and Hill and Hill just scares me. Sanchez sucks and Tebow, well... I just don't see Hill producing at a high level for a while yet. Alshon is a risk but could reward me for sure. I thought about Miller but thought it was too high for him. Figures he'd go right after me and not fall to 2.04 for me.LV Elite wrote:BPA to improve my franchise! Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Welp... looks like I'm going w/ Tannehill after all. Which is funny because I was planning on selecting him since before the NFL draft... but talked myself into Hillman (LB represent!) at some point on Friday. Passing on Jeffrey and Hill to make the move... which I could hugely regret... both guys could easily be ranked top 15-20 dynasty players at this time next year.... but rookie WRs have been a headache for me and both of those situations have migraine written all over them.
(wrote that right after the draft but waited to post... not surprised Hill and Alshon went next two picks)
Glad to hear that I couldn't trade down and still get Tannehill.
Alshon and Hill could easily become huge studs. Cutler and Marshall aren't really the type of guys that seem like they could keep another guy in line (both kind of aloof fuck ups themselves) and that's what Alshon appears to need... I'll prob regret passing on Hill like I passed on Baybay 2 years ago, but who wants a part of that Sanchez/Tebow mess?

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Miller could be the potential steal of the first round.. Leading up to the draft, reading various sources had him competing for the #2RB spot against Martin and Wilson. Was really hoping to trade back into the first to draft him, but no luck.Poker in the Rear wrote:Yep, knew Miller wouldn't last until I picked next, so had to make sure to move up to get him.I thought about Miller but thought it was too high for him. Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Nothing too shocking going on in the draft... a little surprised how early Dwayne Allen went though. Brandon hoping for a Gronk 2.0 there? I think he got him around 2.6 or so in 2010. Probably could've gone Childs there and got Allen at 2.9.

It wasn't a sexy pick, but Brandon knew there were a few people (me included) trying to get in front of his 2.09 to pick up Allen.

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Definitely hoping for Gronk 2.0. I thought hard about going Childs first but since Dwayne was the last decent TE for a while, and there were lots of WR's available, I hoped to get both. I know Dwayne would have gone before 2.09 for sure though, he was on a few peoples radar judging by the emails I got after picking him and Midwest punching me in the shoulder after I picked him. I probably could have got him a few picks later, I just didn't have a trade partner that would allow me to get both guys for sure. At least this way I still get a WR prospect.bonesman wrote:Nothing too shocking going on in the draft... a little surprised how early Dwayne Allen went though. Brandon hoping for a Gronk 2.0 there? Usually, when the commissioner has a good team, these are the kind of polls you see...

Kinda wish that the 2nd and 3rd rounds had a shorter timer

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
nah... if anything the 1st round should be shortened. You've had months to scout and figure out who should be there for your pick. If you're checking out highlight clips while on the clock in the first round, you didn't do your due diligence.
2nd and 3rd round though... no way to tell who's gonna be around then... and it's tough to check out vids on 50+ different prospects. So a little time to do homework on these round guys is necessary IMO.

Pretty great seeing all the commentary with the picks during this season's rookie draft.
Looking at past drafts, doesn't look like anyone gave very many comments as to why they picked who they did.

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Agreed... that's good to see.
I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been more haggling over the rookies. Looks like that Buffalo WR is the only one to go over the minimum so far. I remember after our first rook draft I was trying to get Fred Davis and he got bid all the way up to like 800k and I couldn't put in a higher bid because I was out of town.

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
Also could be the fact there are still a number of rookies that have a shot at playing time that went undrafted. It was a pretty deep draft, in terms of WR anyway. I think in the past there really has only been a couple guys, if that, really worth trying to get. This year I could see myself bidding on a number of these guys but I just don't have the room.
Plus we have a number of new teams and they look to be leading the charge on undrafted rookies.

Re: Draft 2012 smack talk
I'm up to 9 rookies(will be soon), but I think I may have just hit my limit. I agree with Scott...deep draft at WR and so I'm loading up given the lack of veteran talent available.
