Conditional Trades?
This subject came up in trade talks and I wanted to ask Brandon if it was acceptable but I figured I'd do it publicly in case it might stir some discussion.
Can two teams a do a conditional trade whereby one team trades away a 3rd round pick for a player, with the condition that the pick becomes a 2nd rounder if the player starts X number of games for the new team?

No we can't do that, its a cool idea but we don't have a way to track it automatically and I'm not going to do it.

Re: Conditional Trades?
What if we had a locked board titled Conditional Trades and list them there? We have them in another league I'm in and only about 10% of the time does the "condition" actually come into play.

I'm interested to know that too... but I would guess if player starts x amount of games for the fantasy team, or scores over x amount of points.... or maybe even plays/starts X amount of games for his NFL team.

I like the idea but I think there are ramifications that would need to be written in as well. What happens if the team doesn't have the conditional pick to trade?

Re: Conditional Trades?
Most common are how high the pick ends up...you trade a 2nd, but if it is 2.10 or lower then it becomes your 1st or you trade a 2nd, but if you make the playoffs it becomes a first. I've also seen some where if the player traded for the pick finishes in the top 5 in scoring then the pick improves or an additional pick is added.braven112 wrote:What kind of "conditions" are most common?
If you trade a 2nd that could turn into a 1st then you would not be able to trade your first unless you came to an agreement with the other team and they released you from the condition.joe.commish wrote:I like the idea but I think there are ramifications that would need to be written in as well. Bottom line it takes some policing, but as long as the conditions are posted somewhere for everyone to see then everyone in the league takes care of the policing and especially with the dedication we all have to this league I highly don't something would ever slip by without being caught right away.

This thread started based on trade talk between Brian and I..
Personally, I think conditional trades would be awesome to have, especially if implemented the way that was described.
If there are records of it, I'm certain that we'd all help police to make sure that condition's are kept

Re: Conditional Trades?
I'll add that I'm not a fan of the idea. It seems pretty complicated and can really mess up future trade negotiations because "what if" you won't have the pick because it gets upgraded or what not.
It sounds like a cool idea, but the implementation looks like a lot of manual tracking and possible problems as time goes on.
Just my thoughts.

That pretty much sums it up for me, I'm just having a hard time getting excited about it.
