Missed FG penalties?
Just curious if missed FGs have ever been penalized here?
Players seem to get penalized for everything else, but the kickers seem to be clear of any sort of points being docked from them...
Would something like -0.5 of the length of their missed FG be something to consider?

Re: Missed FG penalties?
I've got no problem with it. All my leagues penalize kickers for missed kicks.
In my league it's -1 for a missed XP and -3 for missing a FG of 30 yards or closer (no negative for 31+ yds)
In another league I'm in it's a straight -3 for all FG missed no matter the length. I personally don't care for this because you get negative points when the coach hauls out the kicker for a 70 yarder at the end of the half. I'd limit it to 50 yards at most.

It's bad enough we have to roster these guys... now you're telling me we should have it where they can lose us points too? No Thanks.

Not a fan of kickers either... Just thought it was strange that they aren't penalized if they screw up where as every other position we have rostered does... This is the first time I've been in a league where a kicker didn't get docked points for failing their lone purpose.bonesman wrote:It's bad enough we have to roster these guys... now you're telling me we should have it where they can lose us points too? This is mainly why in my league we only penalize for missing a "gimmie" of less then 30 yards.bonesman wrote:It's bad enough we have to roster these guys... now you're telling me we should have it where they can lose us points too? No Thanks.

In my other league we deduct 1 point for missed fg's from less than 35 and 1 point for missed extra points. That works pretty well.

But in a league where we do not cap the benefit for a long field goal, why should the penalty be capped? Not one of us would complain about getting 7 points for that improbable FG. Where there's reward, I believe there should be risk. I'm generally in favor of -1 for all missed FG's regardless of length, especially when the rules reward for longer kicks made.bonscott wrote:I

Re: Missed FG penalties?
I've never really been a fan of negative points for kickers, last year they only average around 8 points per game. If you take away 1/4 of their points they start to become worthless or a liability. Especially since we are rostering basically every starting kicker there are some games you would be better off with an "injured" kicker. I just don't like the position that puts teams in.

I guess because kickers suck, why make them suck so bad you'd rather have your kicker on bye every week?griblets wrote: But in a league where we do not cap the benefit for a long field goal, why should the penalty be capped?
