Points for return yards
I'm always one to award points for everything a player does. One of these is return yardage.
In my personal local league we award 1 pt for 50 return yards (punt/kickoff returns combined), then 1 pt per 25 yards after.
It doesn't add a lot to most players, perhaps a point or two, but a guy like Leon Washington often has 200+ return yard games and could get an extra 4-5 pts. Overall it just adds a little bit of flavor without overwhelming anything.
Thoughts?

I'd support this. It's not a ton of points, but just enough to make it interesting.

I like the idea, especially if the best a player could reasonably do is score in the 4-6 points range.

I like it too, since some players do return kicks as well as play on offense. Its only fair to reward for their total production.

Re: Points for return yards
Here is an example of Leon Washington from Week 6 in my league. Do not we award 1 pt per reception and also .1 per rush.
4.00 4 Receptions
0.50 5 Rushes
4.00 142 Kickoff Return Yards plus Punt Return Yards
0.70 7 Rushing Yards
2.20 22 Receiving Yards
11.40 Subtotal
In this league he scored:
2.20 22 Receiving Yards
0.70 7 Rushing Yards
1.00 4 Receptions
3.90 Subtotal
So he scored 4 pts off return yards.
The biggest week for return yards I can find was week 3 when he scored this:
2.00 2 Receptions
0.10 1 Rushes
6.00 198 Kickoff Return Yards plus Punt Return Yards
-0.10 -1 Rushing Yards
2.00 20 Receiving Yards
10.00 Subtotal
Of course many weeks he had 0 or only 1 pt for return yards. It's a pretty volatile stat but gives a little boost. Between that and 1 pt per reception Washington was pretty much an every week 3rd RB starter in my league.
This is also why I really wanted to bump up reception points for RBs because it deepens the RB field quite a bit. But that one is over and done with so let's not go there.

Re: Points for return yards
I like the idea of points for return yards, but would like to see it on a per yard scale just like all the other yardage scoring in our league. Maybe .025 per return yard? This would have made the 124 yards worth 3.55 and the 198 yards worth 4.95.

Good call what ever we come up with, we'll have to convert to decimals. I can't stand tiers for yardage.

Re: Points for return yards
Is this something we're going to vote on for this season? We probably need to nail this down before the auction starts anyway.

Re: Points for return yards
I think its something we should vote on but since I've never done a league that uses them I'd feel more comfortable is someone else put together a proposal.
Personally I think it should done on a per yard basis and my personal preference would be something where the best returner in the leagues would average no more than 5ppg so it is a very subtle change. I'd rather error on the side of making it worth less than it should, than more, to start out with.
According to our rules, I believe, we'll have until the 15th of Feb for any rules to go into effect for next season without unanimous approval. So its best to get any and all proposals up for vote here soon.

Re: Points for return yards
Ok, since we don't go out to 3 decimals (and don't want to I'd think) how about either .02 or .03 pts per yard?
at .03:
200 yards (which is an incredible day) would be 6 pts
150 - 4.5 pts
100 - 3 pts
75 - 2.25 pts
50 - 1.5 pts
25 - .75 pts
at .02:
200 - 4 pts
150 - 3 pts
100 - 2 pts
75 - 1.5 pts
50 - 1 pts
25 - .5 pts

.03 sounds good and this would be for total return yards??(punt and kickoff)bonscott wrote:Ok, since we don't go out to 3 decimals (and don't want to I'd think) how about either .02 or .03 pts per yard?

My team sure looks good on paper...even without a stud RB

Re: Points for return yards
Yes, would be combined punt and kickoff return yards. The best day I would find was a week that Sproles had about 220. And the next week he had like 20. So it's a very volatile scoring category but spices things up a bit from the same old same old.Boyz II Men wrote: .03 sounds good and this would be for total return yards??(punt and kickoff)
